Mental health: what if it was time to reimburse psychotherapies!
While the health crisis is severely affecting the mental health of the French, Emmanuel Macron has announced his intention to organize "Assises of psychiatry and mental health" before the summer. The opportunity to finally put the question of the cost of psychotherapy sessions on the table!
We are in a state of health emergency. And while this state of exception could last until June 1 , the arsenal of measures taken to fight the Covid 19 pandemic still does not concern mental health. In early November, several psychiatrists and a psychoanalyst alerted the government to "the third psychiatric wave". Witness of the distress of the French, the psychologists do not say anything else. “In this crisis, it is not just about respiratory resuscitation, we need to be resuscitated morally and psychologically. We are in a state of psychological deathbecause of the duration of this pandemic and the lack of prospects”, observes Ariane Calvo, psychologist and author of the “Little guide to psychological survival in times of health crisis” (to be published on February 4 by First editions). For her, only one solution to face this new reality: to be helped. In theory, the idea sounds appealing. Except there's a catch. Unlike psychiatric follow-up, psychotherapy sessions are not reimbursed by social security. With a cost between 50 and 90 euros on average, the obstacle is real.
